ACICA is pleased to announce the appointment of Diana Bowman to the role of Secretary-General of ACICA.

Diana will commence her role on 20 August 2024 and will succeed long-serving Secretary-General, Deborah Tomkinson.

Diana brings to the role over two decades of international disputes experience gained across private practice and in-house counsel roles globally.

As an Australian and French national, Diana began her career in Melbourne and relocated to Paris in 2010 where she worked in the international arbitration team at White & Case before moving in-house to VINCI Energies. At VINCI she was responsible for overseeing major disputes, conducting risk analysis and contract risk management, and contract negotiation. Diana returned to Australia in 2023 and joins ACICA from her role as Senior Legal Counsel at Bouygues Construction Australia in Sydney. Diana has been a member of the ACICA Users Council since June 2023, which was established to engage with end-users on developments in international arbitration.

Diana has this to say on her appointment: “I am thrilled to join ACICA and to have the opportunity to contribute to its continued growth, building upon Deborah’s remarkable achievements during her tenure as Secretary-General. This is an exciting time for ACICA and for arbitration in Australia. I look forward to working with the Secretariat, the Board and ACICA’s network of members and working committees to help guide ACICA into its next chapter.”

Deborah has this to say: “I am delighted Diana will be my successor. She has a hugely important perspective, that of the end user, as well the vision and commercial acumen needed to lead the organisation. I have no doubt that ACICA will continue to go from strength to strength with its dedicated Secretariat, highly experienced Board, and extensive and qualified committee network. These elements, together with the pro-arbitration infrastructure Australia offers and the quality of the Australian dispute resolution community signals to me that the future is bright for the institution and for arbitration in Australia”.
