ACICA Releases 2024 Case Statistics, Reporting AUD $3.3 Billion in Dispute Value
ACICA has released its 2024 case statistics, reporting a total of 54 administered matters, including 25 new filings. These comprised 13 new arbitration cases, 11 expert appointments and one mediation. Notably, the quantified cases being administered had a combined value exceeding AUD $3.315 billion, representing a marked increase from the AUD $2.1 billion reported in 2023.
New cases spanned industries including construction, energy, finance, retail and IT services. Sydney remained the most preferred seat of arbitration, selected in 69% of new matters.
International engagement continues to grow, with 46% of new arbitration cases involving at least one non-Australian party.
Of arbitrator appointments made by ACICA in 2024, 50% were female, an increase from 33% in 2023. First-time appointments in ACICA arbitrations accounted for all of ACICA’s appointments, furthering ACICA’s commitment to broadening the talent pool in arbitral appointments.
Early 2025 data suggests a similarly active year ahead, with 10 new administered arbitration cases already filed, with a total quantified value exceeding AUD $100 million.
