On 19 June 2025, Level Twenty Seven Chambers and Jones Day co-hosted ACICA45’s latest event, Expedited Procedures: Innovating the Innovation, a panel discussion on the evolution and practical application of expedited arbitration rules. The panel comprised Annie Leeks (Partner, Jones Day), Russell Thirgood (Independent Arbitrator) and Dan Butler KC (Barrister & Arbitrator, Gerard Brennan Chambers), and was moderated by Lucinda Brabazon (Barrister, Level Twenty Seven Chambers and ACICA45 SteerCo Member) and Michael Neumeier (Associate, Jones Day and ACICA45 SteerCo Member).
Michael opened the discussion by reminding the audience of the history of expedited procedures as arbitral institutions’ response to mounting concerns that arbitration was losing its hallmark efficiency, prompting the creation of fast-track procedures to restore speed and contain costs. He also reminded attendees that ACICA was among the first movers, having introduced its own expedited rules in 2008, which were updated to incorporate user feedback in 2021.
